Candidates for the Board of Directors - 2003 |
![]() |
| If you are interested in becoming a CHRVA Board Member, please check
out the Election Process. Your nomination
must
be received by the Chair
of the Nominations and Elections Committee by March 1, 2003
to be included on the Official Candidate Slate.
If, by the deadline, there are still more available seats than candidates,
nominations will be accepted from the floor during the Annual
General Membership Meeting.
The official slate of candidates was closed as of March 1, 2003. Since there are eight (8) available seats on the Board and ten (10) names on the Official Candidate Slate, nominations will NOT be accepted from the floor during the Annual General Membership Meeting. The following tables provide information about the individuals seeking election to the CHRVA Board of Directors for the year 2003. Both tables specify whether or not the candidate is currently on the Board (Incumbent) and presents some personal comments as a means of introduction. This year, the Chesapeake Region will continue to make exclusive use of mail-in ballots to determine which candidates will be selected to fill the open seats on the Board of Directors. Instructions and official ballots are included in the March 2003 Digs Newsletters that are addressed to CHRVA members. Your votes determine the composition of the body that will make all of this Region's decisions. We urge you to get involved in Region operations at the most basic level by returning your completed election ballot by the deadline. The Official Candidate Slate is a table that identifies all candidates who have met the nomination requirements specified in the CHRVA Bylaws by the March 1, 2003 deadline. If you have any questions about the candidates or the process, please feel free to contact our Nominations and Elections Chair, Jake Barkdoll, at jake.barkdoll@chrva.org or 301-987-8596. |

Although I am new to the CHRVA Board, I have been involved
with Chesapeake activities for several years now. I have served as
the WAA and the WBB/B Division Coordinator; coordinated the AAVO Fellowships;
rated scorekeeper candidates; and have taught scorekeeper recertification
clinics. I play and team rep for two adult women’s team, and rep
for my husband’s team as well. I also serve as the club director
for one of the larger adult clubs (14 teams). We have hosted many
tournaments over the years including 13 during the 2003 season. I
have worn many hats and can offer several different prospectives while
working with the Board, including player, team rep, volunteer, official,
and tournament host. My other volleyball activities outside of Chesapeake
Region include playing on recreational teams, officiating recreational
and high school ball, and running the Milkshake Madness Volleyball outdoor
tournament series since 1997.
My personal goal while working on the Board is to develop
better communication with the membership so that your voice will be heard
at Board meetings. I hope that we can provide more surveys and focus
groups and other mechanisms for you to speak out, so that we can develop
new programs and improve existing programs to serve our diverse and ever-changing
membership.

I have been an active participant in the Chesapeake Region
since the mid-1980's. During that time, I have played in the Men's
B, Men's BB, and Men's A Divisions and have served as a team representative
for several seasons. Since the late 1980's, I have been certified
and active as a referee in good standing, working regularly as a non-playing
referee and rating provisional referee candidates at fellowship and regular-season
tournaments. I am currently certified as a USA Volleyball Junior
National Referee. Over the past four years as a Director, I have
served as Vice President (responsible for the Regional Championships),
Eligibility Chair (responsible for resolving issues with respect to team
and individual eligibility), and Handbook Editor (responsible for editing
this year's edition of the CHRVA Handbook). I also manage CHRVA's
email services at CHRVA.org.
I look forward to continuing my service to the membership
of the Chesapeake Region.

I have served on the Chesapeake Region Board of Directors
for 19 years, starting in June 1984. During this time I have served
as Secretary, Vice President, and am currently serving as the Appeals Committee
Chair. During these years, I have played at all levels in Women's
B, BB, A, AA, Seniors, and Masters. For the past 11 years, I have
also coached junior girls. Through coaching I have been able to broaden
my knowlege and love of the game. As well as coaching and directing
the NOVA Club, working with the coaching staff at George Mason University
as a statistician, I am the Assistant Coach for the Men's National Sitting
Volleyball Team. Sitting volleyball is primarily played by people
with lower limb disabilities. I am CAP I & II certified.
Back in 1979, as part of being a team player, I took on the responsibility of becoming certified as a scorekeeper and a referee. I am currently certified as an International Scorekeeper, a Regional Referee, a National Beach Referee and a State level PAVO Referee. Presently, I am serving as the Chesapeake Region Scorekeeper Chair. My goal is to maintain the well respected level of officiating that our Region is noted for. For 12 years, I have served as a rater of aspiring National Scorekeepers. Being involved as a player and a coach, I have hosted and served as tournament director for many adult and junior tournaments over the years. I am married and have 3 daughters and 4 granddaughters.
My passion for volleyball and all that it has enabled me to do, keep me
involved and working to make being a Chesapeake Region member a good experience
for all.

I have been a member of the Chesapeake region since 1982.
I have had the opportunity to be a part of our volleyball community in
many different capacities. I started out as an adult player.
I then began coaching in the junior program and I am still very active
in this aspect of volleyball. I currently am the Director and coach
with the Team Force Volleyball Club, Secretary of the CHRVA region, Board
member with CHRVA, and the Junior Chairperson for Rules and Code of Conduct
Committee. I feel I have a very thorough knowledge of the challenges
in our region and am able to look at issue from various points of interest.
I would like to be considered for another two-year term with the Board
Of Directors.

After competing in my primary sports, basketball and
tennis, most of my volleyball playing days was concentrated in the early
to mid 90’s. Since retiring from actively playing, I currently devote
my time to volleyball through officiating, coaching, and in my dedication
to the various administrative activities in the Region.
Driven by an internal passion for volleyball, I have been involved with most aspects of the sport, both on a Regional and National level. My National experience, along with my professional background, has proven to be extremely instrumental in my current and past contributions to the Region, as outlined in the following list of accomplishments. Being a player, coach, tournament director, official,
parent of a JOV player, husband of a great player, and coaching instructor
provides great opportunities to see our wonderful sport from many different
perspectives. The common bond that we all share is the love for our
game. I believe that in our hearts we all want to grow the game—to
provide more and better opportunities for everyone to experience the fever
for the game that has touched all of us. Our challenge has always
been to make these dreams a reality.
I have been on the Region’s Board of Directors for several
long stints between 1980 – 2001. Each time that I have chosen not
to run has been due to time constraints from other endeavors including
my real job. Each time that I have decided to run has been due to
over-riding concerns over the direction of our Board and Region.
This is the case again. I believe that I can help to unite all of
our membership—from the youngest of our JOV players to the oldest of our
age group players, our coaches, officials, and other supporters—to grow
our sport that has stagnated these past few years, especially in our adult
ranks. This challenge has always been a daunting one under our organizational
structure that heavily relies on volunteer efforts. I strongly believe
that volunteers more readily respond to strong, consistent leadership that
has the best interest of the sport as the foundation for its policies and
actions. I believe that I can help to provide that leadership with
your support. Additional details of my volleyball activities can
be found at www.mvpvolleyball.net under the Coaches Section.

I have been involved with volleyball since 1991 and it
has become a true passion for me. My experiences have included Assistant
women's collegiate coach, skill clinics instructor, Tournament Director
(Alabama State High School tournament), Assistant Coach for Juniors' Team,
collegiate volleyball official, and, athletic trainer for Division I women's
volleyball team. I have been a USAV Player Member since 1996.
I believe that my diverse experiences in several different
Regions and in a number of different roles provide a well-rounded perspective
that will be valuable to the CHRVA Board as it addresses policies and operating
challenges. My purpose in serving on the board would be to give something
back to volleyball and the people in this region where I have played for
five years.

I’ve been a member of the Chesapeake Region for over
20 years, as a player, coach, scorekeeper, and Board member. I’ve
been involved with Men’s, Women’s and Coed teams at all levels. In
my years serving on the Board of Directors, I’ve been involved in many
facets of the organization, including the Finance, Eligibility, and Nominations
and Elections committees. I feel that the CHRVA should be an organization
which promotes fairness and equality to all of its members, and have tried
to use my experience and skills toward that end. If I am re-elected,
I will continue to devote my efforts to promote the sport of Volleyball
within the region, and help make the organization one that we can all be
proud of.
